SIGNATURE 7-DAY ADVENTURE

Writers Gone Wild:
Flow-State Surfing + Writing Retreat

March 8-14th, 2026 | Escameca, Nicaragua

The ocean doesn’t care about your follower count—and neither do we. Come surf, write, and remember who you are when no one’s watching.

It's Time to Trade Endless Scrolling for Endless Swell

Remember what it feels like to be all the way alive? Not just "getting through it." Not just ticking boxes. Not just waiting to see if everything's going to explode...

Living it. Because this is the life we've got.

This is seven days to unplug from the chaos—and plug back into the pulse of your own voice. Salt in your hair. Sunshine on your face. Words pouring out faster than you can catch them.

Stretch and surf in the morning. Write what's bubbling up in the afternoon. Build fires. Make friends. Burn the old rules down.

Because you weren't made for endless doom-scrolling. You were made for freedom and wild words and the kind of laughter that cracks you wide open.

One week. One wild coastline. All you have to do is show up—and the rest will come pouring out.

This trip is a creative reset for mind, body, and soul.

What You'll Leave With

  • A body that feels strong, alive, and well-loved
  • Pages filled with writing that surprises and delights you
  • New creative rituals you’ll actually want to keep
  • A deep connection with like-hearted creatives
  • That post-retreat glow you wish you could bottle
  • A gentle but powerful creative breakthrough—on the board and on the page

Plus:
a curated goodie bag to keep you in flow-state :)

The Writers Gone Wild Nicaragua Experience

We'll spend seven days and six nights, completely immersed in surf, sunshine, and writing. Here’s a glimpse of how we’ll spend our time together: (Click each day to see a detailed itinerary.)

Day 1: Welcome to Paradise!

Step off the plane and into a different pace of life—where the ocean is your backdrop and your only job is to breathe deep and let go. Get grounded, meet your wild-hearted crew, and set the tone for the week of radical creativity and freedom ahead.

Day 2: Find Your Flow—Surf Class & Writing Sesh

Experience the electric rush of surfing (no experience needed!) and channel that momentum straight onto the page. Through a guided writing session, you'll tap into raw, alive energy—the kind that can't be faked behind a screen.

Day 3: Build Your Skills, Sharpen Your Voice

With personalized surf coaching and video review, you’ll level up fast—and the same goes for your writing. Through focused workshops, you'll identify what’s working, what’s not, and learn how to ride your creative waves with more power and ease.

Day 4: Break Through Your Edges

Today’s about pushing past your comfort zone—on the board and on the page. With another surf session, video feedback, and a high-impact creative flow workshop, you'll step into a deeper, braver version of yourself, one wild ride at a time.

Day 5: Rest, Reflect, & Let it Rise

Rest is not a reward here—it’s part of the magic. Spend the day lounging by the pool, floating in turquoise waters, or simply hammocking hard. Gentle yoga, generative writing workshops, and wide-open space will help your best ideas rise to the surface naturally.

Day 6: Surfing, Sea Turtles, & Story Slam

Your final surf session will feel different—you’ll notice the strength, the flow, the freedom. In the evening, we’ll gather around the campfire for an unforgettable open mic: a night to honor your journey, your voice, and the wild new stories you’re carrying home.

Day 7: Home Sweet Home!

You’re not leaving empty-handed — you’re leaving with full notebooks, new friends, wild stories, and a body that remembers what freedom feels like. This is just the beginning.

Your Trip Makes a Difference

Most travel takes a toll—on the environment, on local communities, on the places we love most. At Writers Gone Wild, we do it differently. That's why we're partnering with Costa Dulce, a sustainable eco-retreat built in harmony with the land, the people, and the country.

  • Sustainably Built: 100% solar powered, designed with local materials, and committed to protecting the jungle and coastline.
  • Community First: A portion of every stay funds local education, community health initiatives, and ocean conservation.
  • Local Economy Boost: Your adventure supports fair-wage jobs for local Nicaraguans—from surf instructors to chefs and housekeepers.
  • Low Impact, Big Heart: Off-grid infrastructure, organic gardens, and zero single-use plastics mean you leave a light footprint and a lasting legacy.

When you book this trip, you’re not just nourishing your creativity—you’re directly supporting a community that's rewriting what responsible travel looks like.

Your Hosts on This Retreat

Meet Sara
Professional Writer | Poet | Founder, WGW

Sara Grove is a poet, flower farmer, and the founder of Writers Gone Wild—a refuge for creatives who feel most alive with salt in their hair and a pen in hand. She spent a decade leading wilderness trips across five continents, published several books under pseudonyms for herself and others, and turned a run-down trailer park into a beloved neighborhood. Sara's goal is always to create spaces where people feel safe, inspired, and fully themselves. This retreat is an invitation to remember what matters, reconnect with your creative fire, and finally give your voice the space it deserves.

Meet Hännah
Licensed Therapist | Yogi | Wave Shaper

Hännah is a licensed therapist, certified yoga teacher, and surfer. She brings a grounded, compassionate, and wicked funny energy to every space she holds—whether it’s on the mat, in the lineup, or around a campfire. Before becoming a therapist, she shaped waves for a living (yes, literally), and guided trips basically everywhere but Antarctica. She’s worked in Hawaii helping people reconnect to themselves through nature-based therapy. Today, Hännah blends a variety of counseling and therapeutic techniques to help people rewrite old patterns and live freer, more expansive lives.

>Travel to and from Costa Dulce*

>Alcoholic beverages

>Optional Spa treatments (massages, facials, etc.)

>Optional gratuities for local staff (Writers Gone Wild will tip staff on behalf of the group, extra gratuities are optional and up to you.)

*For travel to Costa Dulce, we recommend flying into Managua, Nicaragua (MGA) OR Liberia, Costa Rica (LIR). We'll arrange a private shuttle to collect you from the airport and deliver you to our retreat home!

How do I get there?

You book the flights. We'll arrange the rest! :)

Recommended airports: Managua MGA (Nicaragua) or Liberia LIR (Costa Rica)

Flying to Managua, Nicaragua:

Flying into Managua is the easiest option once you're on the ground with just a 2-2.5 hour drive through the beautiful Nicaraguan countryside directly to our private cove.

Flying to Liberia, Costa Rica:

The flights to Liberia typically have better prices and more options and is only about 3 hours travel time to Costa Dulce—including the border crossing.

Crossing the land border can be intimidating if you don’t speak Spanish, however we’ve created a downloadable Nicaragua to Costa Rica Border-Crossing Guide to simplify the process and have a team of drivers on both sides of the border to help you along the way.

Whichever way you’re coming into Nicaragua, we’ll arrange your shuttle and make sure you arrive safely and smoothly!

Will I need a passport? Visa?

You will need a passport with 6 months validity! However, you do NOT need to worry about getting a visa in advance. Nicaraguan visas are available upon arrival for $10. Easy peasy!

What will the weather be like?

During March, the temperature ranges from 70 degrees to the low 90s. As it's the dry season, it’s typically sunny and clear every day. There are beautiful puffy white clouds, howler monkeys, and sunshine. It's also the perfect time for beginner to intermediate surfers!

How difficult is the surfing?

Nicaragua is one of the best places in the world for beginner to intermediate surfers! Your surf instructors will choose the best surf breaks and times daily depending on skill level, swell, and tides. Whether this is your FIRST time surfing, or you know how to catch a wave but would like to level up your skills—you will LOVE IT HERE!!!

I have food allergies/restrictions. Can these be accommodated?

Yes! We want to make sure everyone is nourished and taken care of! Meals are fresh, organic, farm-to-table, seasonal, and made with love. We can easily accommodate gluten-free and vegetarian diets. For these—and any other allergies or considerations—please let us know in advance, so we can make sure you're taken care of!

Will there be access to electricity and cell service?

Yes, WiFi is free and available throughout the property. And your rooms are equipped with solar electricity for lights, charging devices, and comfort. Even easier, your room will have standard 3-prong 110-volt outlets. So, unless you're coming from Europe, you won't need an adapter.

While WiFi is available when you need it, we encourage you to embrace the digital detox. This retreat is designed to help you step away from distractions and reconnect with your creativity. We will kindly ask you to leave your cell phone in your room during our yoga, surf, and writing sessions.

Do I have to share a room?

We have both shared and private rooms available. After you place your deposit, we'll be in touch about rooms and preferences.

if you traveling with a friend or family member and would like to share a room with them, simply email us at support@writersgonewild.com and we'll make sure you get roomed together. :)

Do I need to bring local currency? Is there an ATM close by?

USD is readily accepted in most parts of Nicaragua. Costa Dulce and most other establishments in the area accept dollars, but will often give you change in the local currency (Cordoba). We recommend you visit an ATM at your arrival airport, which will dispense both cordobas and US dollars, to get any cash you might want for souvenirs, alcoholic beverages, or massages.

Will I be able to shower? Are there toilets?

Yes! The retreat center has LOTS of clean, well-maintained bathrooms with hot showers and flushing toilets. You’ll have access to everything you need to stay comfortable!

Do I have to read or share my writing?

Sharing your work is highly encouraged but never required. This retreat is a safe, supportive space where you can choose to share as much or as little as you feel comfortable with.

What should I pack?

A full packing list will be sent closer to the retreat, but you’ll want to bring:

  • Sunscreen, hat, sunglasses, and loose breathable clothing

  • A rashguard or long-sleeve swimsuit for surfing!

  • A notebook, pens, and anything else you love to write with

  • A refillable water bottle

  • Sturdy sandals

  • An open mind and adventurous spirit!

What’s the cancellation/refund policy?

We get it—life happens! If you need to cancel, you’ll receive:

  • A full refund (minus deposit) if canceled at least 90 days before the retreat.

  • A 50% refund if canceled 30-89 days before the retreat.

  • No refunds within 30 days of the retreat, but you may transfer your spot to another writer.

NOTE: Due to the small group size and the nature of retreat planning, all deposits are non-refundable. If you’re unable to attend, you may transfer your spot to another writer — or apply your deposit towards a future Writers Gone Wild retreat. We strongly recommend purchasing travel insurance to protect your investment!

I have more questions! How can I get them answered?

We’re happy to help! Send your questions to support@writersgonewild.com and we’ll get back to you as soon as possible.
